Why are some people happy and fulfilled, while others are unhappy and dissatisfied? The Royal Society, Britain’s most prestigious scientific institution, is meeting tomorrow to discuss this question and to investigate ‘the science of well-being’. The 'science of well-being' started in 1998 when psychologist Martin Seligman argued that although psychologists knew a lot about depression, they knew little about happiness. He said they should study what factors contribute to a happy life. Then, they could teach people to be happier. Seligman got $30 million of research funding and the Positive Psychology Movement was born.
