1. La Voz Pasiva en Inglés: Estructuras y Tiempos Verbales
Para formar la voz pasiva, utilizamos el verbo to be en el tiempo correspondiente seguido del participio pasado (3ª columna de los verbos irregulares).
- Present Simple: is/are + built
- Present Continuous: is/are being built
- Be going to: is/are going to be built
- Present Perfect Simple: has/have been built
- Past Simple: was/were built
- Past Continuous: was/were being built
- Past Perfect Simple: had been built
- Future Simple: will be built
- Future Continuous: will be being built
- Future Perfect Simple: will have been built
- Modals: can be built
2. The Passive with Reporting Verbs
Algunos verbos como believe, consider, expect, hope, know, say, suppose, think y understand se pueden pasar a pasiva de dos formas distintas:
Estructura Personal
Sujeto + Verbo en pasiva + Infinitivo con 'to'
Example: This hospital is considered to be the best in the country.
Estructura Impersonal
It + Verbo en pasiva + That + Sujeto + Verbo
Example: It is said that scientists are working on a new cure for the disease.
3. Have / Get Something Done (Causative Passive)
Estructura: HAVE/GET + Complemento + Participio en pasado
- Se usa para expresar aquello que no podemos o no queremos hacer nosotros mismos. El sujeto gramatical no realiza la acción físicamente.
- Podemos utilizar by + sujeto agente para indicar la persona que hizo la acción: She got her nails painted by her friend.
- Al igual que en las pasivas estándar, omitimos el sujeto si no es importante o relevante.
- Usamos esta estructura para decir que algo malo ha ocurrido y no sabemos quién lo hizo. Equivale a una oración impersonal con el verbo en plural: She had her wallet stolen.
4. Oraciones Condicionales
First Conditional
Expresa situaciones reales o posibles en el presente o futuro.
If / Unless + Presente Simple + Futuro Simple / Modal / Imperativo
Example: We won't go to the cinema if Harry doesn't arrive home in time.
Second Conditional
Expresa situaciones hipotéticas o improbables en el presente o futuro.
If + Past Simple + Would / Could + Infinitivo (sin 'to')
Example: If you stopped shopping for a year, you would save a lot of money.
Third Conditional
Se usa para hablar de situaciones hipotéticas del pasado. El momento de la condición ya pasó, por lo que la consecuencia es imposible.
If + Past Perfect Simple + Would have + Participio
Example: I would have taken the coat back if I had noticed the hole before.
Mixed Conditionals
Cuando hablamos de hechos o acciones del pasado que afectan al presente, combinamos el segundo y tercer condicional.
If + Past Perfect Simple + Would / Could + Infinitivo (sin 'to')
Example: If you had kept the receipt, you could take the television back.
Alternatives to 'If'
Podemos utilizar otras palabras en lugar de if, especialmente en la primera condicional:
- As long as (Siempre y cuando / En tanto en cuanto): As long as you're home by 11pm, you can go to the party.
- Providing that / Provided that (Siempre que / Solo si): Indica una condición estricta.
- Unless (A menos que / Si no): Unless it rains, we will go out.
- Even if (Incluso si / Ni aunque): Indica que, pase lo que pase, nada va a cambiar. I wouldn't buy organic food even if it was cheap.
5. Wishes, Regrets and Complaints
Usamos wish e if only para hablar de situaciones que son imposibles o deseadas. Se traduce habitualmente como "ojalá" + subjuntivo.
- Deseo en el presente: Para expresar el deseo de que una situación actual fuese distinta.
Wish / If only + Sujeto + Past Simple / Past Continuous
Example: I wish I had a new dress for the party. - Arrepentimiento del pasado (Regrets): Para lamentar algo que ya sucedió.
Wish / If only + Sujeto + Past Perfect
Example: I wish I had bought that coat. - Quejas o críticas (Complaints): Para quejarnos de algo en el presente o criticar el comportamiento de alguien.
Wish / If only + Sujeto + Would + Infinitivo (sin 'to')
Example: I wish you would stop complaining!
