Fábulas Clásicas y Moralejas

Once when a Lion was asleep a little Mouse began running up and down upon him; this soon wakened the Lion, who placed his huge paw upon him, and opened his big jaws to swallow him.

- "Pardon, O King," cried the little Mouse: "forgive me this time, I shall never forget it: who knows but what I may be able to do you a turn some of these days?"

The Lion was so tickled at the idea of the Mouse being able to help him, that he lifted up his paw and let him go.

Some time after the Lion was caught in a trap, and the hunters who desired to carry him alive to the King, tied him to a tree while they went in search of a wagon to carry him on.

Just then the little Mouse happened to pass by, and seeing the sad plight in which the Lion was, went up to him and soon gnawed away the ropes that bound the King of the Beasts.

- "Was I not right?" said the little Mouse.

Mi Rutina Diaria

A day in my life

A day in my life is very boring, but it is what it is.
I always get up at seven o'clock, then I have a shower and I drive to catch the underground. I have to drive to another village because I live in the nearest village on the coast and my house is between two stations.
When I arrive in Valencia, I go to have breakfast at a snack bar. I usually have a coffee and toast with butter or a croissant.
After that, I go to the office. I'm an industrial engineer and I work as a Strategic Consultant. I like my job a lot because it allows me to meet a lot of enterprises and people, but I dislike traveling to go to these enterprises.
At 2 p.m., I have lunch sometimes at a restaurant and other times at home. If I don't have lunch at home, I frequently have a vegetable or ham sandwich with a beer.
At 3:30 p.m., I come back to the office where I work until 6:30 p.m. Sometimes, I have to go shopping and other times, I go swimming at the sports center.
After that, I come home and I cook for us (this is a way to put it, because I think a lot of people wouldn't eat what I'm cooking), while we watch TV. Finally, we go to bed.

Experiencias Vacacionales

My last holidays

My last holidays were my longest holidays, and I think that I learned how to spend my time. I enjoyed a lot with my friends, and my family, and I met new people too, because I was in different places during the summer, and I wanted to meet people everywhere.
The first place I visited was Calpe, a town in Alicante, because I was invited for some days by a friend who has a house there. I went with some friends, and we spent just five days there, but it was enough time to want to come back next summer! We stayed on the beach for hours in the mornings, just lying and resting, taking in enough energy for the rest of the day and for the night! At night, we went out until the next morning. We danced, met people, walked near the beach... while we watched the moon in silence.
Next, I went to Paris with my parents and my sister. Actually, I did not go to Paris, I went to Disneyland. We stayed there for four days, and it was really unforgettable. When I saw the park, I opened my eyes as wide as I could and I did not close them until the night at the hotel. I felt like a little girl again.
Finally, I was in Salou. My parents looked for a really relaxing time, and we were on the beach for some days. There, we did not visit anything, we were there just to rest. After those days, we came back to Madrid, and, unfortunately, we had to start our routines again.

Gastronomía: ¿Comer en Casa o Fuera?

¿Prefieres Comer en Casa o en un Restaurante? ¿Por Qué?

People often go to a restaurant when they want to eat something they really like or something they are not able to cook in their own house.

On the one hand, when you go to a restaurant, you have to do nothing and you can choose between too many types of food; this is what I see as an advantage. If you are at home, you have to prepare all your food, cook it, wash the dishes and maybe you do not know how to prepare something, or you just do not do it as well as a restaurant does.

On the other hand, when you go to a restaurant, you have to pay not only for the food, but also for the service, so it is cheaper to eat the same thing at home.

In my opinion, I prefer eating at home so I can spend my money to go anywhere or buy something I can't do or get by myself without any money. In conclusion, everything depends on your tastes and your money.

Historias de Terror

A Spooky Story: Bloody Mary

She lived deep in the forest in a tiny cottage and sold herbal remedies for a living. Folks living in the town nearby called her Bloody Mary, and said she was a witch. None dared cross the old crone for fear that their cows would go dry, their food stores rot away before winter, their children take sick of a fever, or any number of terrible things that an angry witch could do to her neighbors.

Then the little girls in the village began to disappear, one by one. No one could find out where they had gone. Grief-stricken families searched the woods, the local buildings, and all the houses and barns, but there was no sign of the missing girls. A few brave souls even went to Bloody Mary's home in the woods to see if the witch had taken the girls, but she denied any knowledge of the disappearances. Still, it was noted that her haggard appearance had changed. She looked younger, more attractive. The neighbors were suspicious, but they could find no proof that the witch had taken their young ones.

Then came the night when the daughter of the miller rose from her bed and walked outside, following an enchanted sound no one else could hear. The miller's wife had a toothache and was sitting up in the kitchen treating the tooth with an herbal remedy when her daughter left the house. She screamed for her husband and followed the girl out of the door. The miller came running in his nightshirt. Together, they tried to restrain the girl, but she kept breaking away from them and heading out of town.

The desperate cries of the miller and his wife woke the neighbors. They came to assist the frantic couple.

Suddenly, a sharp-eyed farmer gave a shout and pointed towards a strange light at the edge of the woods. A few townsmen followed him out into the field and saw Bloody Mary standing beside a large oak tree, holding a magic wand that was pointed towards the miller's house. She was glowing with an unearthly light as she set her evil spell upon the miller's daughter.

The townsmen grabbed their guns and their pitchforks and ran toward the witch. When she heard the commotion, Bloody Mary broke off her spell and fled back into the woods. The far-sighted farmer had loaded his gun with silver bullets in case the witch ever came after his daughter. Now he took aim and shot at her. The bullet hit Bloody Mary in the hip and she fell to the ground. The angry townsmen leapt upon her and carried her back into the field, where they built a huge bonfire and burned her at the stake.

As she burned, Bloody Mary screamed a curse at the villagers. If anyone mentioned her name aloud before a mirror, she would send her spirit to revenge herself upon them for her terrible death. When she was dead, the villagers went to the house in the wood and found the unmarked graves of the little girls the evil witch had murdered. She had used their blood to make her young again.

From that day to this, anyone foolish enough to chant Bloody Mary's name three times before a darkened mirror will summon the vengeful spirit of the witch. It is said that she will tear their bodies to pieces and rip their souls from their mutilated bodies. The souls of these unfortunate ones will burn in torment as Bloody Mary once was burned, and they will be trapped forever in the mirror.

Educación y Aprendizaje

Learning a Foreign Language at School

I personally think that learning a foreign language at school is very difficult because it is primarily a different language from yours and there are lots of new words and structures.

Learning a new language is a slow process because we only dedicate about two or three hours a week to studying it. However, when you put enough effort into learning it, you can achieve your goal. Learning a language is a new life experience which can expand our world and open lots of doors in the job market. We can work in other countries and read about many different subjects.

A foreign language also helps us communicate with many different people who live in our own country or with people that we meet on our holiday trips. For example, if a British person in Spain asks us where something is, we can help him or her.

Last but not least, I can say that when I was learning German, it was very difficult at the very beginning, but towards the end, I was able to understand many words and I was able to communicate using simple sentences.

Letter to a Friend

Dear Elaine and Bill,
I'm sorry about you having hurt your knee, Bill, but despite that, I've thought about an alternative plan. There is a camping site, which has a lake and beautiful views, where we could do a lot of activities, for example, a guide around the forest or we can sail on the lake; this way you won't have to walk for a long time due to your knee, Bill.
In this place, it is always sunny, but it is a little cold in the morning, so I recommend that you wear a jacket.
For lunch, we could do a picnic in the forest, under the shade of the trees. I promise I'll bring you Spanish food like gazpacho to eat. I know you love it!
Lastly, the camping site, called El Chorro, is only half an hour by bus, so we could meet at the bus station in Malaga at 9:00 a.m.
I hope you will like my suggestion and we will have a wonderful day!

Escapadas de Fin de Semana

My Last Weekend

I went to Baños on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with my ex-boyfriend. We had lunch in Latacunga around 3:00 p.m., and after that, we arrived in Baños at 5:45 p.m., I guess.
Then we looked for a nice and rustic lodge; after that, we went to ride a kind of motorcycle with 4 tires, we had so much fun with this.
At night, we went out for dinner at an Italian restaurant called Buon Giorno and we drank the best wine I had ever drunk. Then we walked for a while around downtown Baños and we also took the funny long car worm. We came back to the lodge to get some rest for the next day.
On Sunday, we got up at 8:30 a.m., took a shower, and went out for breakfast. We decided to ride the motorcycle again, but this time for 2 hours; it was so much more fun than the first time. Then we took the car and drove to the waterfalls around there. Around 4 p.m., we were ready to come back to Quito. It was 7:30 p.m. I think, and we stopped in Latacunga to eat something because we were starving. Then we arrived in Quito around 9:00 p.m. We said goodbye and remembered this trip forever.
