Términos del Ámbito Educativo
Tutor: University teacher who teaches a small group of students.
Research: Study a subject in detail in order to discover new information about it. Ex: It’s a good idea to do some research before you buy a house. — Búsqueda de información.
Learner: Someone who is learning to do something. Ex: A new dictionary for learners of business English. — Estudiante.
To Mark: To check a piece of work and put a number or letter on it to show how good it is. Poner nota.
Admission: When someone is given permission to become a member of a club, university, etc. Ex: The Senator’s admission that he had lied to Congress shocked many Americans. — Admitir a alguien en un sitio.
Pass: Successful result in a test or course. Ex: The examiners will only pass you if they feel that you have done the work properly. — Aprobar un examen.
Sit (an exam): Take a test or exam. Ex: Tracy’s sitting the exam this year. — Hacer un examen.
Course requirement: Study something that is needed or demanded for a course. — Estudios previos requeridos para un curso.
Job prospects: The possibility of being successful at finding work. — Perspectivas laborales.
Degree: Course of study at a university or college, or the qualification that is given to you when you have successfully completed the course. Ex: Applicants must have a degree in Engineering. — Grado (estudios).
Boarding school: A school where students live as well as study. Ex: She's in a girls' boarding school. — Internado.
Grades: A mark that a student is given for their work or for an examination. Ex: He got a grade A in maths. — Nota (= mark).

Discouraged: No longer having the confidence you need to continue doing something. Ex: A lot of players get discouraged and quit. — Desanimado.
Get to know: To spend time with somebody or something so that you gradually learn more about them. — Llegar a conocer.
Assist: To help someone to do something. — Ayudar.
Attend: To go to an event such as a meeting or a class. — Asistir.
Host: Someone at a party, meal, house, etc. who has invited the guests and who provides the food, drink, etc. Ex: Our host greeted us at the door. — Anfitrión (intercambio, fiesta, etc.).
Immerse: To become completely involved in an activity or culture. Ex: She was far too immersed in her studies. — Inmerso en una cultura.
Demanding: Expecting a lot of attention or expecting to have things exactly the way you want them, especially in a way that is not fair. Ex: Her mother could be very demanding at times. — Exigente (querer algo de alguien / estricto).
Determined: Having a strong desire to do something, so that you will not let anyone stop you. Ex: Gwen is a very determined woman. — Determinado (una persona decidida).
Broaden: To increase something such as your knowledge, experience, or range of activities. Ex: The course helps school-leavers broaden their knowledge of the world of work. — Ampliar.
Horizons: The limit of your ideas, knowledge, and experience (broaden/expand somebody’s horizons). Ex: A course of study that will broaden your horizons. — Horizontes.

Peers: Your peers are the people who are the same age as you, or who have the same type of job, social class, etc. Ex: American children did less well in math than their peers in Japan. — De tu edad (de tu quinta).
Straightforward: Simple and easy to understand. — Fácil / Directo.
Daunting: Frightening in a way that makes you feel less confident. Ex: The trip seemed rather daunting for a young girl. — Intimidante / Desafiante.
Self-assured: Calm and confident about what you are doing. — Seguro de sí mismo.
