Resumen Detallado de El Mago de Oz

La historia se centra en una pequeña niña llamada Dorothy y lo que tendrá que hacer para regresar a su hogar en Kansas después de que un tornado arrastra su casa, con ella y su perro llamado Toto, hacia un mundo nuevo y extraño.

El propósito del autor está muy marcado con sus personajes principales: nos habla sobre la amistad y, sobre todo, sobre el autoconocimiento para vencer nuestras debilidades. Las partes del relato se dividen en 9 secciones principales:

Las Nueve Partes del Relato

1. Introducción en Kansas: Al principio, se nos presenta a la protagonista, Dorothy, y su vida en Kansas, incluyendo la conformación de su familia: su tío Henry y su tía Em, ella y su mascota, el perro Toto.
2. El Viaje Inesperado: Un tornado pasa por la casa de Dorothy, haciendo que su hogar vuele por los aires y la lleve a un mundo nuevo y extraño. Aquí es donde comienza la aventura.
3. Rumbo a la Ciudad Esmeralda: Por consejo de los amables habitantes del pueblo donde “aterrizó”, Dorothy comienza un viaje junto a su fiel mascota hacia la Ciudad Esmeralda en busca del gran Mago de Oz, para que le ayude a volver con su familia.
4. El Encuentro con los Compañeros: En su viaje, Dorothy se encuentra con quienes serán sus amigos y compañeros de travesía: un Espantapájaros, un Leñador de Hojalata y un León Cobarde. Todos se unen a ella con la esperanza de cumplir el deseo que cada uno tiene, teniendo que superar muchos obstáculos.
5. La Misión Imposible: Al llegar a la Ciudad Esmeralda, Dorothy y sus amigos se enfrentan a otra dificultad: el Mago de Oz les dice que, para cumplir sus deseos, deben ir y matar a la Bruja del Oeste, tal como Dorothy hizo con la del Este (la casa de Dorothy cayó sobre la bruja, aplastándola).

8. La Última Esperanza: Los habitantes le dieron una última opción: hablar con la Bruja Buena del Sur. Así, ella partió nuevamente a un camino de aventuras.
9. El Regreso a Kansas: Esta vez, la Bruja Buena ya conocía la historia y supo cómo ayudar a la niña, indicándole que las botas que llevaba de la Bruja del Oeste le cumplirían su deseo. Así lo hizo, y de un momento a otro, regresó a su querido Kansas.

Conclusión y Mensaje Central

La conclusión que el autor le da al libro es el regreso de Dorothy y Toto con su familia. Los compañeros de viaje también cumplen sus deseos:

• El León, que necesitaba valor, se vuelve el valiente rey de los animales.
• El Espantapájaros, que quería un cerebro, queda como el sabio mandamás de la Ciudad Esmeralda.
• El Leñador es querido como su rey en el pueblo del Este.

Mi conclusión sobre este libro es que es una buena obra para entretenerse. No me gusta que la idea sea algo repetitiva, debido a los muchos y a veces un poco tediosos viajes de la protagonista, pero lo que sí es de reconocerse es el mensaje, el cual me agradó mucho: se trata de no dejarse vencer y, principalmente, de confiar en uno mismo, ya que para que los personajes lograran lo que se proponían, tuvieron que mostrar las habilidades que ellos no creían tener.
