In my final year at university, I started looking for jobs. It wasn't a good time. The economy was weak, and there weren't many companies recruiting new employees. I tried diligently. I went to job fairs and other networking events. I also sent my CV and a cover letter to many companies I was interested in. And I applied for jobs advertised online. I was invited to a number of job interviews. At first, I was very nervous; I didn't perform very well, and I wasn't shortlisted for any second interviews. However, I continued applying, and eventually, I was successful: a graphic design company in Munich offered me a job, and I accepted. I worked hard in my new job, and after three years, I got a promotion to senior designer and a pay rise. At first, I was very happy, but after another two or three years, I felt bored with my work and wanted more responsibility and more money. I got a big break when my boss went on maternity leave, and I was made acting head of department. I did the job well, but when my boss came back, I found it very difficult to return to my old job.

It was difficult when I had to go back to my old job. I was really bored and frustrated, and one day, I had a big argument with my boss. Anyway, three weeks later, the head of department told me that the department was downsizing and I was going to be made redundant. Of course, she just wanted an excuse to sack me. I suppose it was my fault, but I couldn't believe it! I still loved the company, and all I could think was, 'I've been here for eight years. I've worked freelance since then, and I've employed another person for the last two years. I'm very happy at the moment, but I think I'd like to go back and work for a company again one day.
